About Us
The Legal Assistance Resource Center of Connecticut (LARCC) is a community education and public policy advocacy organization addressing issues of importance to low-income Connecticut residents. LARCC does this through:
Public Policy Advocacy
LARCC coordinates the public policy advocacy of the Legal Services Programs in Connecticut. We work to advance state policies which benefit low-income residents of the state through public education, use of the media, lobbying at the state legislature and work with state agencies which implement state and federal laws.
Connecticut Alliance for Basic Human Needs (CABHN)
The Connecticut Alliance for Basic Human Needs (CABHN, pronounced "cabin") is a statewide network of over 3,000 members, including social service providers, advocates, religious organizations and leaders, and individuals concerned about issues affecting lower-income families and communities throughout Connecticut. Members share a common goal of improving services to low-income residents, strengthening our public benefits programs, and increasing supports to families to help them transition out of poverty and become self-sufficient and economically secure. We encourage the sharing of information and strategies to help advocates maximize their energy and resources. For more information, click on Get involved – CABHN Advocacy Network.
Publications
In addition to self-help booklets, LARCC publishes a variety of educational materials on public policies and programs which affect low-income residents. Regular publications include CABHN Fever, a monthly newsletter, the Summary of Public Acts, an annual digest of legislation passed each year that affects low-income people, and Town-by-Town figures on the number of people using state and federal assistance programs in each town in Connecticut. Other reports are posted as they are developed.
Self-Help Booklets
LARCC produces informational self-help booklets. The booklets are designed to give users information on a variety of legal topics including tenant’s rights, family law, senior issues, public benefits, education, utilities and more. The booklets are produced by LARCC and the legal services network in Connecticut.
